I’m sure that you’re already thinking “she’s a tech pro so of course it’s easy for her”. Guess what? Most days, actually everyday, these tips that I’m about to share, are what I need to do most times.
Is it plugged in and turned on?
Sounds like a dumb question right? Trust me I’ve done it before. I remember sitting in my office waiting on a document to print. There was no sound from the printer and of course I started to panic. Turns out that the printer wasn’t on.
Reboot it
Yes, my electronic devices have gone crazy. My code would run on my laptop at home then I get to class with the same laptop and it doesn’t work anymore. This morning, half of the icons on my computer just were not showing up and I had no idea why. I restarted the laptop and voila! Everything was working again. It happens to all of us. For some unknown reason, rebooting devices tends to work. It’s almost like they need a short nap.
What does the error message say?
Not all error messages are created equally. Some actually make sense and relate to the actual issue. Others leave you wondering if age has finally caught up with you. There’s only one way to find out though - address the issue that the error message points to. It might just work!

When was the last time that you updated your device?
Yes you need to update your devices. Raise your hand if you would like to have a compromised device (eyes). Yeah I didn’t think so. Software updates may contain security improvements and help to improve how well your device functions. In short, do yourself the favor and install your updates.
If all else fails - Invest in something new
Now I’m not here to advertise for anyone. However sometimes we’re trying to salvage what’s not meant to be. Be honest with yourself, is it old? Is it obviously dying? Well you may need to admit to yourself that it’s time to trade up. I just traded up to a new phone a month ago. I thought that I could hold on for just one more year. I didn’t mind having to clear space ever so often or put it to charge every half hour but the signs were there. It was heading to that tech grave over the hill.
Here you have 5 easy options for a little DIY tech support. Ready to give one of these a try? I’m not telling you to do it all at once, just choose one that works for you. Also, let me know how it goes! I’m already proud of you for trying.

Most times I panic when the device I am working on does not perform the way I expect it to. And this often happens when it's crunch time where the assignment, document or task is due. What have I done wrong? What am I doing wrong? I would then find myself googling the issue while the clock goes 'tock tock' and the panic sets in. Thanks for the tips will definitely utilise them.
ReplyDeleteI'm just always afraid that I'll break the internet! Every error message throws me into a panic.
ReplyDeleteThose error messages have me puzzled. What did I do wrong? I am cooked now, I messed up the device now...let me just turn off this thing. Fear of gadgets and technology.
