If you’re anything like me, typical self-care seems like more work and who needs more of that, right? Why can’t self-care be simple everyday things? Who says they can’t? Self-care should bring balance throughout your day. It’s not something you stick into your life whenever you can. Definitely not something you have to chisel out time for, although that can be good too. (Yes I should chisel out some time tooπ.) So here are 3 ways to work self-care into your life seamlessly.
Did the scrambled eggs that you made for breakfast taste great? Pat yourself on the back! You did that! Managed to tidy up in record time? Look at you doing things!!! Be your greatest motivator and you’ll find that your self-confidence will increase. You’ll also find yourself learning to be present in the moment and enjoying the little things. Just like me, you may like seeing clean countertops. So, last night when I was done cleaning, I paused and smiled at my work. The moment that I took to be proud of myself may have seemed small but I felt elated about my accomplishment.
I don’t know how many times I’ve had to remind myself to do this (sighhhh). Water is good for your body. Yes yes we’ve all heard this before and it remains true. Your body needs water. Think of how beautiful your skin becomes when you drink water regularly (and mind ya business), and it’s not just what you see. Your spine, joints and bowels all need water. Yes bowels. Don’t believe me? Do the research, you’ll see.
I love painting and I do it for me. What’s that one activity that puts you into that place of bliss? Grab that glass of wineπ·, or water π, and work on creating your own take on something that incited your desire to be creative. Just pausing to focus on something that brings you joy helps you to stop thinking about everything else. Isn’t that what the goal of self care is? Do you like writing? Then whenever you feel the urge, take up that pen and paper and write. Take the walk outside, even if it’s for all of 5 minutes. Live in your moment.
If we work these tips into our daily routine, we’ll find more balance and begin to enjoy life more. We don’t need to wait on plans to relax. Being proud of our accomplishments, taking care of our body and just doing the little things that we love will help us to be present, and change our behavioral patterns for the better.
I do so very much agree. I usually tell folks to take time out to appreciate the little things. As simple as stepping outside and taking a deep breath we cherish the fact that we are alive.
